DESCRIPTION
LOUIS KATONÁ (France, 1850-1933)
Pair of Art Deco bookends; c. 1930.
Nickel-plated bronze.
Measurements: 14 x 14,5 x 6 cm (x2).
Pair of Art Deco nickel-plated bronze bookends, featuring a design of stylized and synthetic lines. In both pieces, the main motif of the design is an animal in a rampant attitude.
Louis Katona (1850-1933) was one of the most acclaimed makers of decorative art objects in wrought iron, managing to combine an impressionistic aesthetic with this not-so-delicate material. Most of his creations capitalize on the interest that styles such as Art Nouveau or Art Deco had, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, for the decorative valences of wrought iron, a very popular material in the design of the era.
