DESCRIPTION
French school; XIX century.
"Head of a woman".
Carrara marble and veined marble base.
Measurements: 41 x 23 x 15 cm.
Carved in Carrara marble, with a veined marble base that enhances its elegance, the piece reflects the technical refinement and aesthetic sensibility that defined nineteenth-century French sculpture. The serene face and idealized features, along with the meticulous treatment of the hair and the delicate edges of the attire, reveal a balance between naturalism and neoclassical idealization, typical of the French academic tradition.
During the 19th century, this school achieved notable relevance in Europe for its rigor in artistic training, its cult of classical beauty and its ability to harmonize the study of the human body with a profound emotional expression. In this work, the softness of the modeling and the subtle play of light on the marble give life to a figure that, more than an individual portrait, embodies the feminine ideal of the time, a synthesis of virtue, grace and contemplation.
