DESCRIPTION
GEORGES GORI (c. 1900-after 1937).
"Putti," c. 1930.
Terracotta.
Signed.
Measurements: 38 x 45 x 17 cm.
Terracotta sculpture depicting two small naked children in a tender and playful scene. They are embracing while they seem to roll or play on a softly modeled surface, similar to a cushion or blanket. The figures have highly detailed childlike features: curly hair, rounded cheeks and sweet expressions. The forms are soft and voluminous, typical of the classical representation of infants in art, and convey warmth, innocence and closeness.
Georges Gori, of Italian descent and active in Paris, exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1929, where he received wide recognition. In 1931 he received a bronze medal for his contributions to the decorative arts. This work is signed "G. Gori" on the base, along with the inscription "Made in France".
