Catherine Lee is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker. Lee grew up in Pampa, Texas. She studied at San Jose State University in San Jose, California, where she earned a bachelor's degree in studio art in 1974. She lived in New York City for nearly thirty years and returned to Texas in the late 1990s. Lee had his first solo exhibition in 1977 at the Duffy-Gibbs Gallery in New York City, and his work has subsequently been exhibited in several public and private collections. A Los Angeles Times publication of his 1988 solo exhibition at Michael Maloney Gallery describes his work as, "small, quirky pieces consisting of oddly shaped, individually colored or bronze elements that nest together, often in the form of puzzles." Her works feature repetitive forms in a variety of materials, and have been described as minimalist and structuralist. In 2012, she was the featured artist of the West Texas Triangle, a group of five art museums in West Texas. Her work Unica 39 (1987), an "abstract color monotype," is part of the permanent exhibition at the Tate Gallery.
