The plastic language of Silvio Monfrini in this work, characterized by a masterful synthesis between solemn rigor and a vibrant expressive eloquence, ratifies his position as one of the leading figures in the evolution of Lombard statuary.
Silvio Monfrini was an outstanding Milanese sculptor trained at the Brera Academy under the tutelage of Ernesto Bazzaro, whose work represents the transition between the realism of the Scapigliatura and the neoclassical monumentalism of the twentieth century. Specializing in public and funerary statuary, his legacy in Milan is fundamental, highlighting the iconic monument to Francesco Baracca (1931), his numerous sculptural contributions to the spires of the Duomo and the refined sepulchral monuments in the Monumental Cemetery, characterized by a vigorous mastery of bronze and marble.
