ALBÉRIC COLLIN (Antwerp, 1886-1962).
"La penseuse", 1912.
Bronze.
Signed.
Measurements: 38 x 34 x 21 cm.
Exhibitions: "European sculpture of the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014.
Collin was a central figure in the group of artists who frequented the Antwerp Zoo (such as Rembrandt Bugatti). He is best known for his bronzes of wild animals, which earned him a gold medal in the artistic competitions at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. "La penseuse" (1912) represents a key moment before he focused almost exclusively on the animal world, showing that he possessed impeccable academic technique before launching into modernity.
