DESCRIPTION
Ceremonial lance "Pertuisane". Europe, 17th century.
Steel blade.
Wooden shaft covered and decorated with metallic applications.
Finished with textile tassels.
Without restorations.
Measurements: 218 cm (length).
Remarkable example of European ceremonial pertuisane, this piece combines symbolic functionality and ornamental refinement in a typology linked to bodies of guard, court ceremonies and contexts of representation. The stylized steel blade, with a lance-shaped profile and lateral fins, responds to models widespread in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, where the lance evolved from its military use to an object of prestige and distinction.
Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the shaft, richly coated and decorated with metallic applications that run along its length, providing a sumptuous character that is unusual in weapons of strictly military use. The finishing with textile tassels reinforces its ceremonial dimension, suggesting its belonging to courtly spheres or honor guards. Due to its scale, decorative quality and state of preservation, this piece is a significant example of historical European weapons, highly appreciated both for its aesthetic value and its historical interest.
