Measurements: 25 x 22 x 10 cm.
Iron sculpture by Jorge Castillo in which the author explores the volume through the silhouette of a figure, achieving a suggestive plastic three-dimensionality that oscillates between drawing in space and sculptural presence.
Jorge Castillo showed an exceptional vocation for drawing: at the age of ten he was already copying Peter Paul Rubens, whose work, according to the artist himself, later helped him to understand the cubist language of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. Although his family moved to Buenos Aires shortly after his birth, Castillo returned to Europe in 1955 and settled in Madrid, where he came into contact with the critic José María Moreno Galván, who encouraged his integration into the artistic environment, and at the end of the fifties he began to exhibit and sell his drawings, appreciated even by Antonio Saura, and soon turned his work towards engraving, a technique that would become one of his main means of expression. His international projection took off with his participation in the São Paulo Biennial in 1960, followed by important exhibitions and appearances at key events such as the Venice Biennial.
Since then, his work has traveled to museums and galleries around the world, consolidating a career recognized with numerous awards. Today, Castillo lives and works in New York's Soho, and his production is part of prominent international collections, reflecting a solid and profound career.
