Modest Morató's Studio

Crucified Christ, based on Romanesque models.

Alongside two other contemporary Christs, one in bronze with a wooden cross and the other in bronze without a cross.

A set consisting of three crucified Christs of varying styles and materials. The main piece is associated with the circle of Modest Morató, a Barcelona-based sculptor and artisan who specialized in works inspired by the Middle Ages. The Christ figure follows Romanesque models, featuring a frontal, crowned, hieratic figure with a simplified anatomy, closer to the Christus triumphans than to the suffering Crucified One. The composition emphasizes an idea of majesty and spiritual permanence rather than physical pain.

The figure on the light-colored wooden cross presents a softened Baroque-style interpretation, with a stylized body, a tilted head, and the cloth of purity rendered with a certain dynamism. The Christ figure without a cross, also cast in bronze, displays a more intense expression and a more dynamic execution, particularly evident in the twisting of the body and the folds of the cloth.
