DESCRIPTION
Spanish School, mid-20th century.
Crucified Christ.
Patinated iron and enamel.
Measurements: 27 x 25 cm (Christ); 63 x 40 cm (cross).
Christ in patinated iron, with a white-enameled cloth of purity. The figure presents a highly simplified and expressive interpretation of the Crucified Christ, far removed from academic naturalism and closer to a modern sensibility, with an almost primitivist character. The body, dark and stylized, is rendered through essential planes—arms outstretched and legs crossed—with a formal economy that reinforces the image’s devotional intensity. Given its refined style and materiality, it can be situated within mid-20th-century Spanish religious art, in dialogue with medieval-inspired models reinterpreted through a modern aesthetic.
