Crucified Christ carved from polychrome terracotta, mounted on a patinated iron cross of later or complementary origin. The figure displays a stylized anatomical treatment, with an elongated torso, arms stretched wide, and the head bowed over the chest, emphasizing the expression of abandonment and sacrifice. The cloth of purity, rendered with broken and dynamic folds, creates a clear hallmark of contrast with the golden, darkened skin tone of the body.
The work reflects a devotional sensibility with historicist roots, closely resembling late-Gothic and neo-medieval models reinterpreted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The metal cross, with a checkerboard-patterned engraved surface and a circular halo, reinforces this archaic character, combining an almost artisanal simplicity with a strong ornamental presence. The piece retains remarkable expressive power, despite visible damage—particularly in one area of the arm—which requires restoration work.
