The relationship between the photographer Luis Pérez-Mínguez and the artist Carlos Pazos is framed in a context of coetaneity and belonging to the same generation of creators who promoted the cultural renovation in Spain after the dictatorship.
Luis Pérez-Mínguez was a fundamental Spanish photographer and a key figure in the Movida Madrileña, the countercultural movement that exploded in Madrid in the 1980s. More than just a chronicler, Pérez-Mínguez was a visual creator and a cultural engine that helped define the aesthetics of an era of artistic freedom and experimentation. Early in his career, Luis Pérez-Mínguez actively participated in numerous artistic interventions in the Madrid galleries Buades, Multitud and Vijande. His series "El Caballero de la mano en el pecho" was exhibited at the ARCO fair in 1983, through the Estampa Gallery. A year later, in 1984, he presented the retrospective "20 years learning to look" (1965-1984) in the Pablo Ruiz Picasso rooms of the National Library of Madrid. Subsequently, his work transcended Spanish borders, being exhibited in cities such as Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki, Brussels, Warsaw, as well as in Syria and the United States, among other countries. Institutional recognition came in 1991, when his work was included in the photographic collection of the Reina Sofia Museum on the occasion of the exhibition "Four directions. Contemporary Spanish Photography, 1970-1990", curated by Manuel Santos. His work can be found in prestigious private and institutional collections, including the Leo Castelli Collection in New York, the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Reina Sofia Museum, the Pilar Citoler Collection and the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM), among others.
