The photobook Party was conceived by Cristina after an initial trip to China in 2012, undertaken for the sole purpose of reacting photographically to whatever captured her attention, without prior analysis. She returned with a vast series of images whose only common denominator was her own astonishment, making classification difficult. To shape this work, Cristina used the structure of Mao's Little Red Book (the ancient "Bible" of the Chinese people) to create a particular narrative about China today. The artist adapted this historical political statement to the 21st century by censoring and hiding outdated parts of the text and highlighting redesigned phrases that, she believes, offer a more accurate portrayal of the country today.Beginning of the form.
