This previously unpublished portrait is of documentary interest as it depicts Lambert Escaler, a multifaceted figure of Catalan Modernism, in a carefully composed studio portrait. The close framing and side lighting highlight the intensity of his gaze and the sculptor’s striking presence.

Escaler worked as a sculptor, decorator, and playwright. He achieved particular recognition for his polychrome terracotta busts of women, linked to Symbolism and Art Nouveau, and created decorative works for buildings such as Casa Figueras and the Poliorama Cinema. His work is part of the collection of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.
