"Virgin and Child".
Oil on panel.

Measurements: 41 x 31 cm.

This religious icon of Byzantine style is a visually striking piece, marked by its characteristic golden background and the solemn representation of sacred figures. The Virgin Mary occupies the center of the composition, dressed in a red mantle and blue tunic. She holds the Child Jesus in her arms; both are framed by a golden halo that emphasizes their holiness and focal importance. At the top, two angels in ornate robes and halos flank the scene, holding a royal crown above the heads of the Virgin and Child. Each angel carries a phylactery with inscriptions in Greek, a distinctive feature of Orthodox iconography used to communicate sacred messages. The dramatic contrast is remarkable: the black of the background accentuates the richness of the golden details and the intensity of the colors of the vestments, lending depth and great solemnity to the work. A worn, gilded frame surrounds the piece, reinforcing its antiquity and deep devotional character.
