Henri Milne Edwards was a renowned zoologist. Much of his original work was published in the Annales des sciences naturelles, with which he was associated from 1834. His books include Histoire naturelle des Crustacés (3 vols., 1837-1841), long a reference work; Histoire naturelle des coralliaires, published in 1858-1860, but begun many years earlier; Leçons sur la physiologie et l'anatomie comparée de l'homme et des animaux (1857-1881), in 14 volumes; and a small work on the elements of zoology, originally published in 1834, but subsequently remodeled, which enjoyed an enormous circulation
