DESCRIPTION

Facsimile Portuguese Memorial, 1494.
Editorial Testimonio, 1994.
Facsimile edition, copy 151/980.
Notarial certificate enclosed.
Measurements: 29,50 x 31 cm.

Facsimile edition published in 1994 by Editorial Testimonio, which accurately reproduces a document of enormous historical relevance preserved since the 16th century in the General Archive of Simancas. It is a memorial of more than fifty pages addressed to Queen Isabella the Catholic by an anonymous Portuguese nobleman, in which he advises her to prioritize the expansion of the African continent instead of embarking on the route to the Indies, a few years before Christopher Columbus' voyage.

This text, dated 1494, offers a unique insight into the interests and political tensions between Portugal and Castile at the dawn of Atlantic expansion, and highlights the strategic debates that preceded the colonization of the New World. Its rediscovery in recent times by professors István Szijártó Szaszdi and Katalin Klimes-Szmik, authors of the study and critical transcription, has allowed a revaluation of this hitherto virtually ignored document.

The facsimile is presented bound in leather with dry stamping, accompanied by a study volume that includes the transcription of the original text, philological notes, and an exhaustive historical analysis. The whole set is housed in a sober and elegant presentation box, maintaining the quality standards of the collection.

Published in a limited and numbered edition, with notarial certification, this work is an essential piece for researchers of the period of the discoveries, historians of Iberian diplomacy of the 15th century, and collectors of historical books in high bibliophile editions.
