Manuel González Martí. Ceramics of the Spanish Levant. Medieval Centuries. 3 volumes.
Tiled Tiles; Tiles, Retablos "Socarrats"; Earthenware.
Editorial Labor, S. A., Barcelona - Madrid - Buenos Aires - Rio de Janeiro, 1944.
Edition in three volumes.
Measurements: 23 x 16 x 5 cm (each one).
Complete work in three volumes dedicated to the study of the medieval ceramics of the Spanish Levant, written by Manuel González Martí, historian, collector and founder of the National Museum of Ceramics of Valencia. Published in 1944 by Editorial Labor, it is one of the fundamental studies on medieval Hispanic ceramic production.
Each volume deals with a specific aspect of Levantine ceramics: the first focuses on tiling and tiles; the second on tiles, altarpieces and "socarrats"; and the third on earthenware. Throughout the work an exhaustive historical, artistic and technical analysis is developed, contextualizing the productions within the Hispano-Muslim and medieval Christian cultural framework, with special attention to the formal, decorative and symbolic influences.
The set is presented bound in illustrated editorial cloth, with matching slipcase. A classic reference edition, essential for specialized libraries, art historians, decorative arts researchers and collectors of studies on Spanish ceramics.
