A copy of a remarkable historical work dedicated to the Order of Santiago, one of the main military and religious orders of medieval and modern Spain. The book gathers the compilation of statutes, ordinances and historical foundations of the Order and Chivalry of the Glorious Apostle Santiago, an institution closely linked to the defense of the Christian territories during the Reconquest and the maintenance of the faith in the Hispanic kingdoms.
The cover presents an elaborate intaglio engraving of great iconographic richness, in which the Apostle Santiago is represented as a warrior knight mounted on horseback, wielding a sword and carrying a standard, the traditional image of Santiago Matamoros. The scene is framed in a baroque composition with allegorical figures and ornamental elements, crowned by a celestial scene with angels, which reinforces the religious and symbolic character of the work.
The text develops the origin, evolution and privileges of the Order of Santiago, including references to its foundation, its knights and the spiritual and military functions they performed within the Hispanic monarchy. Works of this type were fundamental to consolidate the institutional memory of the military orders and to transmit their historical and religious legitimacy.
A copy of notable interest for collectors and scholars of the history of the Spanish military orders, religious history and antique books, standing out especially for the presence of its engraved cover of great artistic quality and for its value as a testimony of the knightly tradition linked to the Jacobean cult.
