La Nouvelle Maison Rustique, ou Économie générale de tous les biens de campagne is an outstanding 18th century agricultural and domestic encyclopedia, mainly attributed to Louis Liger (1658-1717), although many of its editions were updated by other authors. This work served as a comprehensive practical guide to the management of rural domains, addressing such topics as agriculture, animal husbandry, garden design and care, cooking, and general rural economics. With numerous illustrations and detailed descriptions, it offered its readers a comprehensive view of life in the countryside during the 18th century.
Its historical importance lies in its encyclopedic character and the wealth of practical and visual information it provided, which made it a widely consulted and reprinted reference text throughout the eighteenth century, with notable editions in 1755, 1768 and a tenth edition in 1775.
