DESCRIPTION
English armchair Egyptian style, second half of the nineteenth century.
Carved wood, polychrome and gilded.
It shows wear.
Measurements: 97 x 60 x 59 cm.
British armchair of the nineteenth century, in carved and polychrome wood. The decoration is inspired by iconographic motifs of Ancient Egypt. The two lions carved on the front of the legs allude to Aker, the god of the horizon, and Ajet, the symbol of sunrise and sunset. The lions are the custodians of dawn and dusk. On the armrests, the reliefs show the wings of Horus, in reference to the falcon god and the winged sun god, symbolizing power and divinity. Next to the wings, a "cartuche", symbol of good fortune, has been represented, inside which hieroglyphs appear. The thin legs end in claw feet.
