DESCRIPTION
Pair of Directory armchairs. France, ca. 1790.
Walnut wood.
Later upholstery by Maison Brazet. Leopard fabric as used under the Empire and Directory for certain seats.
Measurements: 89 x 63 x 70 cm.
Pair of Directory armchairs dated to the late 17th century, featuring a walnut wood frame and later period upholstery with leopard print. Each piece of furniture is supported on four legs, the front ones being straight and the rear ones open towards the exterior in a curved position that adds lightness to the structure. The backrest is also slightly warped at the top. The beauty and originality of the union between the armrests and the front legs stands out, where a sphinx head protrudes.
