DESCRIPTION
Trousseau chest; Ottoman Empire, XVIII- XIX century.
Wood inlaid with mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, bone and fruitwood. Paper lined interior.
Preserves key.
Slight losses in the interior paper.
Measurements: 32 x 30 x 20 cm.
Chest for trousseau made of wood raised on four rectangular legs. The panels of the chest are covered with fine marquetry typically Ottoman, with mother-of-pearl tesserae drawing a geometric pattern of tear leaves. The compositional symmetry is also applied to the front of the upper body, whose marquetry design in mother-of-pearl shows differentiation in the central area, which is flanked by two floral vases. The upper part of the lid has a slope-shaped structure, which gives volume to the piece. The interior is lined with paper ornamented with vegetal motifs.
