DESCRIPTION
Cushion mirror. Netherlands, 18th century.
Ebonized wood with embossed brass plate.
Measurements: 150 x 96 cm.
Cushion mirror named for its volumetric structure. The piece presents a rectangular format divided into several registers with an outer perimeter dominated by a simple band of ebonized wood that gives way to a golden profile with ornamental elements of vegetal character. The center is dominated by a tortoiseshell finish with carved details in the corners and centers of each side. Finally, an ebonized profile gives way to the last register in gilded brass plate, which frames the mirror itself. The piece ends with a large architecturally inspired crest dominated by a profuse ornamentation with vegetal elements, crowned by a large mask.
