DESCRIPTION
Cabinet. Germany, ca. 1700
Veneered wood with marquetry
Measurements: 135 x 112 x 27 cm.
Elegant cabinet of German origin, made around 1700, characteristic of transitional baroque Central European furniture. The structure of the upper body is organized in three sections: the lateral ones, with three drawers each, and the central one, dominated by a door with a markedly vertical proportion, on which there is an upper drawer framed by curved profile moldings, which give dynamism to the symmetrical and contained design of the whole.
The front of the cabinet is decorated with filleted marquetry that enhances the natural grain of the wood, especially on the central door, where the most refined details are concentrated. Each drawer has gilded metal fittings in the form of a stylized floral bouquet, typical of Germanic decorative goldsmithing of the period.
The cabinet stands on an architecturally inspired archimetry, composed of a waist with lowered arches supported by eight turned Solomonic legs, joined by curved chamfers that bring lightness and visual stability to the ensemble. The fusion of sober lines with ornamental details highlights the balance between function and aesthetics characteristic of German baroque furniture.
