This Art Nouveau ceiling lamp features three arms of light extending from a central wrought iron crown. The crown is richly adorned with vine stems and leaves worked with great naturalism. Its diffusers are of translucent mottled glass, characteristic of the renowned Muller Frères firm.
The Muller brothers began working for Gallé, and later established their own glass manufacture in Luneville. Years later, production moved to Croismare, and the pieces were signed "Muller Croismare". The firm produced mottled glass and acid-etched cameo, mainly between 1905 and 1937.
In this piece the mottled appearance has been obtained by mixing several different glasses of different colors and opacities. The mixture is made in the crucible, with hot glass but without reaching the maximum temperatures, so that the masses of glass are not completely mixed, the result being an irregular and asymmetrical finish, very typical of Art Nouveau glass.
