German baroque canterano-bookcase from the middle of the 18th century, made in walnut wood of light tonality. The piece is structured in three bodies: lower chest of drawers, central desk and upper showcase, following the functional design characteristic of the Central European furniture of the time.
The lower body corresponds to a chest of drawers with an undulating front, with two large drawers and a third register subdivided into three smaller drawers. It rises on cabriole legs, and a trimmed skirt with a mixtilinear profile, which dialogues with the soft curves of the whole.
The central body houses the desk, with a sliding top that, when opened, reveals an interior compartmentalized in small drawers and a niche. The button handles, also made of wood, maintain the sobriety of late Germanic baroque.
The upper body forms a showcase topped by a sinuous top with an undulating contour that evokes an architecturally inspired ceiling. This type of curvilinear finial is characteristic of the South German Baroque and already heralds the Rococo taste. The piece combines structural solidity and curvilinear elegance.
