DESCRIPTION
Flemish showcase of the 18th century.
Walnut wood, with inlaid shell, mother of pearl and bone.
Later table, 19th century.
In need of restoration.
Measurements: 132 x 70 x 43 cm.
Refined Flemish showcase from the 18th century, made of walnut wood and richly decorated with Boulle style marquetry, a technique of French origin that was very prestigious in Europe at that time. In particular, putti and birds carved in bone stand out, arranged on conchay backgrounds dotted with small mother-of-pearl polka dots, creating a delicate and sophisticated visual play. The profiles and edges of the showcase are enhanced by geometric carvings in the form of fretwork with small grooves, which bring relief and refinement to the whole.
Its structure responds to a design of architectural inspiration, with a split pediment crowned by a central pinnacle with a squat belly, flanked by two smaller lateral pinnacles. The base of the showcase also features ebonized and carved moldings with grooves.
These showcases were conceived to display precious objects or private collections, reflecting the taste for collecting and artistic ostentation in the Hispano-Flemish tradition.
The cabinet is accompanied by a later 19th century table with salomonic legs.
