Milanese cabinet from the XIX century whose aesthetics is a clear direct heir of the lavish Renaissance and Baroque cabinets of the XVI and XVII centuries. Made of ebonized wood with a meticulous inlay of bone, the furniture stands out for the precision of its ornamental work and for the architectural elegance of its structure, organized in staggered bodies and crowned by a balustrade with small pinnacles.
The carved and inlaid decorations, with classical figures, vegetal scrolls and grotesques, reveal the influence of the famous Lombard school of cabinetmaking, renowned for its technical mastery and refined sense of design. This type of pieces, with a clear artistic as well as functional vocation, enjoyed enormous popularity among the European elites of the 19th century, fascinated by the historicist taste and by the recovery of the sumptuary arts of the past.
The quality of the ebonization, the purity of the forms and the precision of the bone inlay confirm that this is a prestigious piece of workshop furniture, conceived both as a status symbol and as an example of the continuity of Italian decorative art in modern times.
