Measurements: 91 x 120 x 56 cm.
This Dutch chest of drawers from around 1800 embodies with sobriety and elegance the transition between the late eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century in the furniture of the Netherlands. Executed in solid oak, it reveals a sturdy and functional construction, a characteristic feature of the Dutch tradition.
The front, with balanced lines and well-measured proportions, is organized in wide drawers that emphasize the horizontality of the piece of furniture. The fruit marquetry, used sparingly, introduces a subtle play of veins and warm tones, while the fine rosewood fillets delimit and hierarchize the surfaces, providing contrast without breaking the overall austerity of the design.
Stylistically, the chest of drawers is close to Dutch sober neoclassicism, with still perceptible echoes of 18th century furniture, but now purified of rococo excesses.
