DESCRIPTION
Bureau; Netherlands, second third of the 18th century.
Walnut-rooted oak structure.
Preserves key.
Measurements: 77 x 96 x 57 cm.
Dutch Bureau of the 18th century, a moment of transition in which the constructive rigor inherited from the previous century is softened by a more fluid and domestic language. The solid oak structure, entirely covered with walnut root veneers, combines solidity and refinement, qualities particularly appreciated by the enlightened bourgeois clientele of the Netherlands.
The front is articulated by a succession of drawers with an undulating profile. The furniture rises on turned legs and trimmed crosspieces that introduce a discreet late baroque dynamism, already anticipating the formal lightness that would characterize the rococo taste.
Balanced, warm and of great material quality, this piece sums up well the sensibility of Dutch furniture of the second third of the 18th century.
