This pair of Boule de Gui lamps, made around 1925, is the result of the famous collaboration between Edgar Brandt and the Maison Daum, two of the most influential names in French Art Deco. The lampshades, made of glass paste by Daum in Nancy, present an expressive chromatic gradient that transitions from luminous amber to deep blue, evoking twilight atmospheres and demonstrating the technical virtuosity of the manufacture. The bases, designed by Edgar Brandt, are executed in wrought iron with a sculptural composition of great dynamism, where the vegetal motifs of the mistletoe are integrated into an open sphere of powerful architectural presence.
Edgar Brandt (France, 1880-1960) was one of the great wrought iron masters of the 20th century and a key figure of French Art Deco. Trained as a blacksmith and designer, he achieved international recognition for his ability to transform metal into compositions of great elegance and modernity. He participated prominently in the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925, where his work was a notable success. Brandt collaborated with the leading manufacturers of his time and his designs were incorporated into decorative objects as well as architectural and monumental projects.
