DESCRIPTION
Dressing table mirror on pedestal; China, c. 1920s.
Gilt bronze; cloisonné enamel; engraved moon; ebonized and polychrome wood.
Measurements: 56 x 41 x 28 (mirror); 90 x 37 x 37 x 37 cm.
Dressing table mirror made of bronze and decorated with cloisonné enamel, a traditional Chinese technique in which fine metallic threads delimit areas that are filled with vitreous enamel of bright colors. Also, in the mirror moon there is a bird perched on an almond tree branch, wheel-carved elements that give depth to the whole; in the tops of the arms that support the aforementioned tilting moon we find two rooster heads in gilded bronze. The decorative repertoire is exuberant, combining a multitude of plant motifs such as lotus leaves with tendrils and banana leaves.
The mirror rests on a wooden base carved with fretwork and lotus motifs, which continue the iconographic program of this one.
