Bibliography: Félix Marcilhac, René Lalique. Catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre de verre, Les Éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2004, model referenced and reproduced on p. 593.
Measurements: 15 x 38 x 18 cm.
Pair of sconces model "Rinceaux", designed by René Lalique in 1926, within the refined Art Deco language of the French maison. Made of molded, pressed and partially satin-finished glass, they feature a delicate relief decoration inspired by plants, organized by superimposed leaves and curvilinear motifs of great plastic richness.
When lit, the glass takes on a particularly suggestive presence, alternating translucent and satin areas that gently sift the light and accentuate the depth of the relief. The semicircular shape allows a warm and enveloping illumination, designed both to decorate the wall and to create an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere.
This is an extremely rare and particularly appreciated model in Lalique's production. Its conservation as a pair, the presence of the signature, the accompanying documentation and its reference in the catalog raisonné of Félix Marcilhac reinforce its collector's interest.
René Lalique is one of the most influential figures in the decorative arts of the 20th century. After a brilliant period as an Art Nouveau jeweler, he became an absolute pioneer of art glass and luxury industrial design. Lalique pieces are preserved in prominent museums such as the Corning Museum of Glass and the Metropolitan in New York, the Louvre or the Orsay in Paris, among many others.
