Window reliquary; 1741.
Silver in its colour, glass and polychrome wax.
It is in a good state of preservation.
Measurements: 7,7 x 6,5 x 1,5 cm.
Devotional piece from the 18th century made in silver of its colour. The reliquary, which can be used as a pendant, has an oval structure, as is customary, with a rounded exterior finish that reproduces openwork geometric lines. On the inside there are religious images printed in wax. The name Benedict XIV can be read on both images, which means that it is an Agnus, that is to say, a reliquary that houses a wax plate printed with a devotional image that has been blessed and consecrated by the Pope, in this case Benedict XIV. The two scenes are dated 1741, one year after Benedict XIV became Pope. One side depicts the Agnus Dei or Lamb of God on an altar, while the other side shows a portrait of Saint Anthony of Padua with the Child.
Reliquaries of this type were very common from the Gothic period onwards, used to contain relics of saints. It should be remembered, however, that at that time virtually anything that had been in contact with the saint or his mortal remains (cloths, burial soil, etc.) was considered a holy relic. The best examples were made of precious metals.
