Powder compact; Italy. End of XIX century, beginning of XX century. Silver 800 gilded and chiseled with bakelite plates. Hallmarks in the interior. Measurements: 1,3 x 5,2 cm. Powder compact of Italian origin made of gilded silver for the structure. The piece of circular format has a design based on bakelite plates arranged in the base, lid and sides. These plates are delimited in its perimeter by gilded and chiseled silver that reproduces ornamental motifs of vegetal character. The popularity of powder boxes dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a time when make-up was not yet socially accepted and the first powder boxes were often hidden in accessories such as walking sticks, jewelry or hat pins.
