DESCRIPTION

Set of four boxes of drawing instruments and compasses. France and Germany, late 19th - early 20th century.
Complete.

Measurements: 2 x 18 x 9 cm (the largest case).

Four cases of technical drawing instruments and compasses made of steel, with bone details. The cases, in different sizes, are made of imitation leather in different tones. The interiors are lined with velvet. They include compasses of various types, adapters, nibs, and drawing pencils. One of them is stamped with the famous Bavarian Riefler mark. The stamps of the German Teknisk-Skole Tegnebestik and the French Unis firms are also preserved. The cases preserve all their parts, in functional condition. Cases with wear and tear typical of use and of the period. The damage does not affect the condition of the instruments.

Founded in 1841 by Clemens Riefler, this Bavarian firm specialized in drawing instruments of the highest precision, known for their durability, mechanical smoothness and meticulous finish. Since the end of the 19th century, Riefler established itself as a supplier to technical institutions and universities in Europe and America, and was also recognized for its precision pendulum clocks - used in observatories and laboratories - and for its participation in international industrial fairs. Its compasses, manufactured to the highest standards, stand out for their modular construction, the quality of their materials and a mechanical precision that is difficult to match even today.
