William Ford Stanley (1829-1909) was an English inventor and engineer noted for designing and manufacturing precision instruments, including compasses and drawing instruments. He founded his firm, W.F. Stanley and Company Limited, in 1854 in Holborn, London, where he began by producing mathematical and drawing tools. In the 1860s, he expanded his product line to include a variety of precision instruments. Stanley's company established itself as one of the leading British manufacturers of drawing instruments in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and its products were recognized for their accuracy and quality.
