Gilded copper.

The company itself, still active, states "Francis Searchlights are renowned throughout the world for their quality and longevity in hostile conditions. The wide range of products manufactured by Francis covers many special requirements and regulations. For example, the 710 mm Suez Canal searchlight includes gas-tight construction, split beam and a switch lamp facility. The MKV FSP 127 (5") compact signal lantern complies with the requirements of the "International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea". This convention states that all ships over 150 tons (gross tonnage), when engaged on international voyages, must have on board an efficient daytime signaling lamp that does not rely solely on the ship's main source of electrical power. Other regulations relating to rescue boat equipment on ships and fire-fighting vessels are covered in the Francis standard product range."
