As we observe in the box-jewelry box in bidding, the japonism is manifested in decorative arts in the incorporation of Japanese motifs such as cherry blossoms, birds, landscapes and traditional scenes of the country. This artistic trend reached its peak during the 19th and early 20th centuries and encompassed all disciplines (from paintings by Van Gogh and Monet inspired by Japanese prints, to architecture in which elements of traditional Japanese architecture were adopted). This was mainly due to the opening of Japan to international trade in 1854, which allowed Western artists and designers to discover a new world of techniques, styles and traditions that contrasted with the European conventions of the time.
