Pair of decorative goblets, dated in the second half of the XIX century, which respond to the refined taste of the Napoleon III style, characterized by opulence, eclecticism and a marked predilection for historicist reinterpretation of previous styles, especially the Renaissance and Neoclassical. Crafted in gilded and finely enameled bronze, these goblets reflect the technical perfection and ornamental detailing that defined French decorative arts under the Second Empire.
Each goblet has an elongated body, inverted conical in shape, set on a quadrangular base slightly elevated by small turned legs. The profile of the body narrows towards the foot, giving the whole a sense of lightness and verticality. The lid, topped with a bulbous pinnacle, blends harmoniously into the stylized silhouette of the piece, emphasizing symmetry and compositional balance.
The most striking feature of these cups is their brightly colored enamel decoration, applied with extraordinary precision on the golden background of the bronze. Floral and geometric motifs follow one another in vertical stripes, forming a rhythmic pattern reminiscent of both oriental cloisonné enamels and the neo-Renaissance ornamentation popular in the 19th century. The glaze, applied in vivid shades of cobalt blue, emerald green, burgundy red and pearl white, creates a vibrant contrast with the warm gold of the underlying metal. This rich, well-balanced polychrome was highly valued in Second Empire interior decoration.
