Set of seven measuring instruments and compasses, 19th century.
Steel, iron and brass.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 20 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm. the largest.
This heterogeneous set of instruments reflects the diversity and evolution of technical drawing and measuring tools during the 19th century. Predominantly metals such as brass and steel, and precision engineering for the time. Reduction or Proportional Compasses, Forge or Robust Compasses with dry points, Precision Compasses with Gear or spring, Prop or Divider Compasses, with slender legs and steel points. Finally, a small square or graduated ruler, probably of brass, with an arm forming a right angle. Useful for drawing perpendicular lines or for smaller scale measurements on a drawing plane.
