DESCRIPTION
Pair of two-light sconces; France, c.1900.
Gilt bronze and mirror.
One of the moons is missing.
Measurements: 42 x 20 x 10,5 cm (x2).
Pair of sconces of two lights each, made in France around 1900. Both have the same design that combines gilded bronze and mirror in a composition of clear neoclassical inspiration with late rococo accents, typical of the historicist taste of the late nineteenth century.
The frame, profusely ornamented with openwork garlands, culminates in an upper finial in the form of a female bust, typical motifs of the French decorative repertoire. At the bottom, a male mask serves as a point of union for the two arms that support the candelabra. The pieces reflect the refined belle époque spirit, in which bronze craftsmanship and formal elegance evoke the splendor of 18th century courtly styles reinterpreted with a modern and decorative air.
