DESCRIPTION
Two-light sconce; France, c.1900.
Gilded bronze and mirror.
Presents losses and breaks.
Measurements: 36 x 24 x 14 cm.
This two lights sconce made in France around 1900, combines gilded bronze and mirror in a composition of clear neoclassical inspiration with late rococo accents, typical of the historicist taste of the late nineteenth century.
The frame, profusely ornamented with garlands, pearls and scrolls, culminates in a top finish with shells and scrolls, typical motifs of the French decorative repertoire. In the lower part, a male mask serves as a point of union for the two arms that support the candelabra. The piece reflects the refined belle époque spirit, in which bronze craftsmanship and formal elegance evoked the splendor of 18th century courtly styles reinterpreted with a modern and decorative air.
