GASPAR BOUTTATS (Antwerp, 1648-1695/1696) . "Assassination of Henry IV, King of France" Dutch engraving from the late 17th century. Text in French. Published in Amsterdam. Dirt, moisture stains, cracks, wrinkles and some breakage. They were part of the book "Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde", that was appearing from 1723 to 1743. Measurements: 29,5 x 40 cm (larger) . Gaspar Bouttats (Antwerp, 1648-1695/1696) was a Flemish engraver. Author of engravings of history, topographic and portraits, in his production we can find loose prints and illustrations of books. The etchings he dedicated to the assassination of Henry IV, king of France, stabbed by François Ravaillac, a Catholic fanatic, to the beeldenstorm or iconoclastic fury in the cathedral of Antwerp are well known.
