In Spain, the Ibero-Swiss company hosted from the mid 60's to the 90's the main Spanish artists. The serigrapher José Llopis made this firm an undisputed reference in terms of artistic printing. From artists linked to pop art, optical art or geometric art to Zóbel or Tàpies, as well as artists with a clear political commitment such as Renau, Genovés, Equipo Crónica or Equipo Realidad, all of them found in Ibero-Suiza's silkscreen printing an ideal technique for their projects: they liked its industrial character, its procedures, the effects and nuances obtained, and the affinity of all this with the resources of the media. Joaquín Michavila was trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia, and later became a professor of Fine Arts. He was one of the precursors of abstract art in Valencia, being part of groups such as Los Siete, Grupo Parpalló and Antes del Arte. His career goes through various phases of evolution and experimentation, thus, we find constructivist series where geometry has a great prominence, in which the fracture of space is investigated through flat surfaces, always without forgetting the absolute rigor of the composition. Meanwhile, in 1978, a new Michavila is born, author of a series justly famous, "El llac", which will be followed by the series of "El riu". Throughout his career, Michavila held exhibitions throughout Spain, as well as in Rome, Florence, Basel, Denver, Sao Paulo, New York and Vienna. He was distinguished with numerous awards, including the Alfonso Roig of the Diputación de Valencia in 1996 and the Gold Medal of the City of Valencia in 1997, as well as being named Alcorí Distinguit in 1998.
