According to the digital archive of the Biblioteca Nacional de España, "The appearance of this publication dates back to 1 May 1842, when it began to be published in Cádiz under the title La Moda and the subtitle: "weekly magazine of literature, theatre, customs and fashions". It was founded by the Cadiz engineer, doctor and writer Francisco Flores Arenas (1801-1877), and was printed in the Printing and Lithography of the Revista Médica, an establishment run by the Cadiz printer and publisher Federico Joly Velasco (a surname that would become a journalistic business saga up to the present day, as founder and owner of the Diario de Cádiz, 1867)".
