Alcaín was formed in the School of San Fernando, the National School of Graphic Arts and the National School of Cinematography, all in Madrid. A renowned engraver, his works often consist of several images or blocks of color, which are assembled to form a single image. Alcaín is present in more than thirty museums and collections, among them the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the Reina Sofía, the Museo Municipal and the Biblioteca Nacional in Madrid, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville, the Museo del Grabado in Buenos Aires, the Museo Internacional Salvador Allende in Santiago de Chile and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao.
