In the transition from the 18th to the 19th century, Spanish painting underwent a significant evolution, marked by the tension between the baroque heritage, the courtly rococo and the incipient neoclassicism. Two key figures in this transformation were José del Castillo and Ramón Bayeu, artists trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and active collaborators in the production of cartoons for tapestries at the court of Charles III. Although both died in 1793, their artistic legacy endured and influenced later generations.
