Silkscreen linked to the famous publishing project Le Livre des Mille Nuits et Une Nuit, one of Jean van Dongen's most emblematic graphic works. The composition presents feminine figures with a free and sensual stroke, resolved by means of an expressive drawing and an intense chromatic application, characteristic features of the artist's language. The work synthesizes Van Dongen's interest in exoticism, theatricality and the representation of the female body, recurring themes in his graphic and pictorial production. The balance between gestural black line and color planes gives the image a strong visual presence and a marked decorative character.

Jean van Dongen was one of the most prominent figures of Fauvism and the Parisian art scene of the early twentieth century. Linked to the environment of Derain, Vlaminck and Matisse, he developed a personal style characterized by the bold use of color and a sensual and modern iconography. His work is part of the collections of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among other international institutions.
